Just like clockwork every six months or so, you settle
into the exam chair at your dentist’s office. You sit there trying to make
small talk with the staff while sporting a mouthful of dental tools and hope
you’re being understood. But what are they really checking for during a routine
dental exam? Apart from asking your opinion about the recent weather, that is?
At Park Slope
Dentistry, we are the location of choice for a vast number of patients who
turn to us to be their Brooklyn
dentist, and we’re going to use this blog post to tell you a bit about
what’s covered in a routine dental exam.
Firstly, the hygienist or dental technician will discuss
any changes in your medical condition that should be noted in your file. Once
the initial query is complete, the dentist will then perform a full visual
examination of your mouth. This inspection includes the teeth and all of the surrounding
soft tissue.
Next, your dentist will use an instrument called an
explorer to check each tooth for any signs of decay, staining, or gum
recession. The inspection will also include the margins of crowns or fillings.
If any problems are found, we’ll book a follow-up appointment for you.
Whenever you need a checkup or any other dental
procedure, remember that we are a Brooklyn
dentist clinic ready to help you.
